Check-in tips – online check-in, at the counter & machines

Airport Check-In – Airport Procedures

Before you start your holiday by plane, you must first check in. Usually, you can either go through the airport counter, use the service conveniently online at home, or use the airport kiosk to avoid unnecessary queues.

What types of check-in are there?

The classic processing method is the check-in counter. Present the booking number that you received earlier via the e-ticket. When it's your turn, share your booking number or view your booking confirmation on your mobile device. Alternatively, you can present a printed e-ticket. Also take a photo ID, ID card or passport with you. First Class or Business Class passengers can use counters dedicated to them. You should leave your home early enough to be at the airport at least 2 hours before departure. Long lines at check-in or security can be time consuming. Regardless of how you check in, it may happen that the counter will send you checked baggage to a separate baggage drop-off point (e.g. because of bulky baggage, prams, sports equipment, etc.). The travel bag can also be searched for prohibited items. These are random checks that are carried out from time to time.

  • The online check-in

You can check in online at many of the airlines' websites the day before departure. To do this, you must provide your ticket number and your personal data. At the end of Online check-inprocess, you can print out your boarding pass or send it to your mobile device or save it in your wallet. Like the boarding pass created at the airport, the self-printed version contains all the important information and the QR code that is read when the tickets are checked and scanned. Even if you check in online, on the day of departure you must go to the check-in desks of the respective airlines, as this is also where the luggage check-in is located. You should also be careful not to exceed the permitted weight limit. On long-haul flights, the weight of the airlines varies between 20 kg and 30 kg. With web check-in, you also have the advantage of being able to reserve a seat if you wish. Depending on the airline, you should expect an additional fee.

For some airlines such as B. Ryanair only online check-in is offered!

  • Check-in machine

At many airports you can check in yourself at the check-in machines. These are usually located directly in front of the check-in / baggage check-in counter. at the self-service machines you have the option of entering the booking number and other data that is required. However, there is no guarantee that every airport and airline will have check-in kiosks. You can then drop off your luggage at the baggage drop-off counter.
